Jane Minasian
Vocals, Guitar, Songwriting
Playing with Better Late has been one of Jane’s great joys, and she finds particular delight in jointly crafting and delivering interesting arrangements and vocal harmonies for cover tunes as well as band originals. Jane loves her Taylor guitar and exploring new genres, as well as ways to make each song more expressive. She also plays with the Folk/Americana
band “Trailmix- Uncommon Folk” as well as subsets of both bands.
Ron Pearl
Electric Guitar, Mandolin
As the newest band member Ron helps bring Better Late into a wide range of electric blues, country and original compositions. Tasteful rhythm and lead licks compliment the bands re-imagined covers and originals. Previously Ron was with PearlBenson Band, partnering with Jeffrey Benson, Better Late’s bassist and songwriter.
Matt Mayerchak
Vocals, harmonica, percussion, songwriting
Matt learned to play harmonica while hitchhiking around the USA in his teens and 20s. Growing up, he played drums at countless sporting events. He rebootedhis passion for playing live music a few years ago, by attending summer music camps and weekend retreats run by WUMB radio, which is where he met bandmates Jane Minasian and Jeffrey Benson.
Jeffrey Benson
Bass, Songwriting, Vocals
After years of noodling around on various instruments, Jeffrey realized the bass was important in any music-- he made mastering his electric and upright basses a priority; mastery turns out to be an endless journey. Along the way, he has played his basses in jazz, blues, folk, bluegrass, raga, and a Grateful Dead band, as well as anchoring the bottom of the Pearl Benson band (with Better Late's Ron Pearl), which often played sets of his own tunes. Lately he has rediscovered his tenor sax, hoping someday to add that to Better Late's soundscape.
We are a Boston based band, founded in 2024. The four of us draw on the musical sources, styles and traditions each of us love, interpreting classic and obscure covers, and performing our own eclectic originals.
We play acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, upright and electric basses, harmonicas and percussion, and craft unique vocal arrangements and harmonies over our instrumentation, jams, and grooves. Our sets move seamlessly from Country and Folk to Blues and Rock to Jazz standards and on to Bluegrass--and some songs that defy categorization.
